FREEDOM SCHOOL
July 7-August 8
Freedom School, now in its 3rd year at First Church, is a 5-week academic enrichment program for 50 Cleveland Metropolitan School children, ages 5-14. In partnership with Berea Children's Home and the Children's Defense Fund, First Church's Freedom School is designed to boost students' motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, and connect the needs of children and families to the resources of their community. children are taught by "servant leaders" - specially trained, college-aged young persons from the Cleveland area. Surrounded by teams of caring adult church volunteers and servant leaders, Freedom School students receive daily opportunities for positive reinforcement, cultural enrichment, social action and civic engagement, leadership development and nutrition and physical and mental health awareness.
